Hello! Little background on myself: I have absolutely no sword training. However, I was trained in TaeKwonDo for three years, and am currently training under an 8th degree TaeKwonDo black belt in a general MMA class.
I have long searched for a worthy lightsaber that would last me several years. This tool would be used both for show and combat, as I learn. However, I am not sure where to order it from.
Here's what I am looking for: Custom built (to my personal specifications) Heavy-duty (for full-contact dueling, that will last several years) No sound or effects, only light
Money is no object. I am willing to spend a bit to get exactly what I want. I previously looked at Advanced Light Weaponry, but from what I've heard, the hilts are very heavy. I am assuming that this could create problems in efficient show, as well as be uncomfortable hanging from a belt.
I am wanting to study Form V (all aspects, however slight emphasis on Djem So).
If anyone has any recommendations, please let me know. Thanks!

Also to answer your question you said you want to study for V. Our suggestion is always start with the basics and work your way up. You study TKD which is not a weapon art. This means starting with basics being as you have no weapon background is a must. Start with Form I Shii-Cho and work your way up the system. We have a system of progression described in this forum. Best of luck to you.

To sum up what Telos posted, the good/bad news is that you have a TON of options for buying a saber. The more money you're willing to spend, the bigger the options list gets! If you haven't already, take a look at our Weapons Locker series, where we review various different hilts. All of us have different preferences, company to company, so try to narrow down what you'd like in a saber, and ask away! We'll help guide you however we can.

Mitchell Theron Patrick: Hello, I’m new to the idea of lightsaber dueling and I still need to get a lightsaber. I was wondering if TPLA still conducts classes as I live in Michigan.

Dark Angelus: Greetings to all. I am already in a class called River City Jedi. Learned so much already and they do use TPLA as part of their guide lines and forms.

Furiora Helseare: I know, was crazy for me to see as well, although I'm not a huge fan of the rules... honestly never liked "right of way" in fencing. If people score a double neither should count, you're both dead
Mar 2, 2019 13:57:27 GMT -5
Furiora Helseare: "right of way" doesn't exist in a real fight, I don't care if it's "your turn to attack" if I see an opening I can take, I'm taking it.

Nero Attoru: Right of way has some roots in realism, since attacking is given priority (which makes sense given the fact that the attacker would theoretically strike a killing blow first)

Nero Attoru: Regardless, epee is a weapon that most people forget, and doesn't use right of way! Two hits gives each fencer a point, reflecting the double kill.

cyclingswitch: I get why they went with that system though. If you watch Saber Legion fighting instead, it becomes more akin to kendo. It's realistic fighting but it doesn't look like Star Wars anymore.

cyclingswitch: In Saber Legion, moving your saber around more than you need to to thrust, parry or do a quick strike to the waist or head is basically giving away a point. At least that's what I've seen in the matches I've watched with their style.

Colin the Grey: Hey guys, whenever someone can find the time to go over my second Shii-Cho formula primer submission, that'll be a huge help. My free time is going to go down hard in a month or so, and I'd like to make more progress in the meantime. Thanks!
